About
The organisation was founded in 1981 as part of the council for
Voluntary Service Employment Initiative. It expanded and developed to such an extent
that in 1987 it was decided that a separate limited company needed to be formed which
became Barnsley Youth Development Association.
1988, the Company applied for, and was granted, charitable status and became known
as BYDA.
In April 2002 the company name was changed to Independent Training Services Limited.
ITS has a Board of Trustees representing local business, education and community groups.
Our core business is centered around the training of young people in a variety of vocational areas. In addition, we offer support and guidance with Skills for Life, Job Search, Personal Development and other related issues. Our Entry to Employment programme gives young people the opportunity to build their confidence and self-esteem and sample a variety of vocational activities enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their future. We have experience of the adult market and provide the same inclusive standard of service to these clients.
Our training centre is accredited to offer National Vocational Qualifications by City and Guilds, Edexcel and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
We have a dedicated team of staff who were chosen for
their ability to work with learners who have a varied range
of academic achievements.
All our staff hold relevant
vocational and training qualifications and specialise in areas
ranging from employer based assessment, vocational
training, numeracy, literacy and quality improvement.
The company is committed to continuous development and annually conduct a self-assessment of all our training and development activities.
We work closely with the Learning and Skills Council and Awarding Bodies to ensure that the needs of learners and local employers are met.
