Home » FaqFrequently Asked QuestionsWho are Independent Training Services (ITS)?ITS are a registered Charity and a leading Training Provider in the Barnsley area, offering high quality vocational training and support for the past 25 years. What training do ITS provide?ITS offer a variety of training programmes that can be tailored to suit individuals needs, including Work Based Learning Apprenticeships, Entry to Employment (e2e), Train2Gain, Investing In Skills. What is Work Based Learning?Work based learning is the ideal route for school leavers who don’t really want to go into Further Education but want to gain a nationally recognised qualification while they work. If you’ve just left school or are currently unemployed, ITS can help find you a placement with an employer and arrange a training programme that’s right for you. If you’ve already found a job and want to gain a qualification we can help you by arranging for you to train towards an Apprenticeship / Advanced Apprenticeship. What is an Apprenticeship / Advanced Apprenticeship & what does it involve?Apprenticeships allow you to gain a recognised qualification (usually an NVQ) while you continue to work, by building up a portfolio of evidence as you go, which shows that you know why and how to do your job. What other services do ITS provide?We can provide short certificated courses on site in subjects such as Basic First Aid, Health & Safety and Manual Handling. We also have a fully equipped suite of training/meeting rooms that can be hired out. What occupations do you cover?ITS covers Social Care, Motor Vehicle, Retail and Customer Service. We also offer the opportunity to sample other areas and gain qualifications through our E2E programme such as Early Years Care, Construction, Horse Care and many more. Do you get jobs in my area or will I have to travel far?If you don’t already have employment, we will try our best to help you find employment or a placement with a company in your local area depending on availability. How much will I get paid?If you are employed, you will negotiate this with your employer but can be on no less than £80 per week if you are on an Apprenticeship programme. On other programmes, such as E2E or if you are not yet employed, you can apply for EMA (Educational Maintenance Allowance). More information on this can be found at http://ema.direct.gov.uk/ema.html. What is initial and diagnostic assessment?These are short computer or paper based assessments (depending on your personal preference) which inform us of what you already know. This information helps us to tailor our programme to your individual needs. These assessments are not a test or an exam. What are key skills?They are the basic skills in communication, numeracy and ICT which are necessary for successful employment.
